Answer does not need to be more than 2 or 3 paragraphs.
Please review Lois Tyson’s chapter on reader-response criticism and think about the basic reader-response idea that reading is sequential. That is, when we read, we create meaning as we go, sometimes revising our thoughts as we encounter new things in the text. One of the things this happens is that, as we proceed, the text creates expectations in us that later can be realized, or frustrated, or whatever. In this view, to read literature is to undergo a series of experiences, and just as we can analyze the sequence and structure of things that happen to the protagonist of a text, we can also analyze the sequence and structure of the things happening to ourselves as we read a text.
With all this in mind, please write a detailed “response-analysis statement” describing your experience reading the first few chapters of Richard Brautigan’s Trout Fishing in America. Try to describe, step by step, your own experience as you read these chapters.
